The Leica Year

One Leica. One Lens. One Film. One Year.

My name is Sean. I am an amateur film photographer that lives in Seattle.

Inspired by this article and My Leica Year photoblog I decided to start this project. My photoblog here will track my progress along the way. I'll be using my Leica M4 with a 50/2 Dual Range Summicron. For film choice, I'll be shooting with Fomapan 400.

The Leica Year…what can I say?

A year (and then some) has come and gone. It ends with:

  • 70 rolls of films.
  • 36 shots on a roll.
  • A total of 2520 photos.
  • 14 of which are to become prints.

But those are just the numbers. I really came out of this project with an understanding of what I like to shoot and what I am good at shooting. I learned that these can be two different things and there is no weakness in that being the case.

I also acquired a sense of accomplishment. I started this with thinking I was really crazy to try it. A year with one camera, one lens, and one type of film?! I look at my other cameras that have been sitting on my shelf this whole time, and see a light layer of dust upon them. I’m surprised I made it to the end.

This is the end…kinda. I still have photos to get printed and framed. And I want to put those images in a photobook as well. I’ll be posting progress on those fronts here.

To everyone that encouraged, followed and faved this tumblr, thank you. It is nice to get the encouragement while I was doing the project. Nice to know there are folks that like photos on films as much as I do.
